Julia Creek

Named after the niece of Donald McIntyre, the first European settler in the area, Julia Creek started to grow when the railway line was extended back in 1908. The district’s main industries are cattle, sheep and mining at BHP Cannington. It is a major stock trucking and cattle sales centre, where the impressive saleyards are fitted with lighting for night loading and unloading. Many sporting and social events are held throughout the year and they are a major feature of the town’s lifestyle. This includes a major triathlon, horse races and bullrides. Around the area, Punchbowl Waterhole is an excellent spot for swimming, fishing and picnicking. The wonderful birdlife will also give one an amazing experience before winding the day down by watching the sunset.
Routes to Julia Creek are operated in conjunction with Queensland Government.
