Normanton

Normanton is a small cattle town with a population of 1,000, 60 per cent of whom are Indigenous Australians. Located on the Norman River, where barramundi and salmon may be caught, it is the administrative centre for the Shire of Carpentaria in northwest Queensland. The Gulf Savannah region extends from the Great Dividing Range in the east, to the Northern Territory border in the west. Normanton was also the port for the Croydon Gold Rush and is a terminus of the Normanton Railway Station, whose Victorian architecture has been preserved. Visitors of Normanton enjoy taking pictures with Krys, a statue of an 8.64 metre long saltwater crocodile. The Big Barramundi at 6m long is also a hit.
Routes to Normanton are operated in conjunction with Queensland Government.
