Boulia

Approximately 300 kilometres for Mount Isa is Boulia, the town recognised as the Capital of the Channel Country. Visitors to Boulia may be lucky enough to view the mysterious Min Min light. The light is said to appear at random places and times and described as a hovering luminescent ball about the size of a car headlight. The light was named after the old Min Min ‘pub’ and mail-change where the light was first witnessed around a hundred years ago. Scientists have still been unable to explain why the phenomenon occurs but the mystery can be explored at the Min Min Encounter & Information Centre. On the third week of July are the annual Camel Races, a quirky event that includes fireworks, bands, magicians, markets, wood chopping and of course, the spectacular camel racing. The event attracts people from all over the world. During Easter, rodeo riders from all around unite to compete in the Boulia Rodeo, Camp-draft and Races. Another main event is Back to Boulia, an annual family event with a Boulia Talent Quest, bronco branding, and races. Fishing, sightseeing and bird watching are also enjoyed in Boulia.
Routes to Boulia are operated in conjunction with Queensland Government.
