Doomadgee

Doomadgee is an Aboriginal community located alongside the Nicholson River, only 140 kilometres from the Northern Territory border. The Nicholson River is one of the permanent freshwater rivers that flow from the ranges behind Lawn Hill National Park. Descendents of the Waanyi and Gangalidda people are the prevalent Aboriginal groups residing in Doomadgee. From 2006, the Queensland Government, with support of the community, has increased services to Doomadgee with eight of 25 Queensland government departments now represented in Doomadgee. The community is keen to develop its tourism industry and to showcase its strong and vibrant culture. Alcohol Management Plans which restrict the type and quantity of liquor that can be brought into various remote indigenous communities have been implemented by the Queensland Government. Please visit Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural Affairs for more information.
Routes to Doomadgee are operated in conjunction with Queensland Government.
