Rex and Dovetail Forge Partnership to Pioneer Aircraft Electric Propulsion Conversion

Rex and Australian-headquartered Dovetail Electric Aviation (Dovetail) today announced the formation of a strategic partnership to pioneer the conversion of turbine powered aircraft to electric, nil emission propulsion. The partnership, which will operate under the Dovetail brand, will develop and certify the retrofitting of electric engines onto legacy aircraft, initially for regional and general aviation aircraft. John Sharp, Deputy Chairman of Rex Airlines, said: “Rex is both proud and excited to be at the forefront of developments in sustainable regional aviation and helping our national efforts in achieving the target of net zero emissions by 2050."

Rex Saab Fleet Grows

Rex has taken delivery of another SAAB 340 turboprop, further bolstering its fleet of aircraft operating to regional and rural destinations in every State in Australia. The 34-seat aircraft, registered VH-ZPO, arrived in Australia from the United States yesterday and will enter service once final engineering and regulatory checks have been completed. Rex operates the world’s largest fleet of SAAB 340 turboprops, with VH-ZPO becoming the 61st SAAB aircraft to join the airline.

Rex Returns to Merimbula After Extended Airport Closure

Rex today resumed flights to Merimbula from both Sydney and Melbourne and announced the airline was also scheduling additional services over Easter, the Anzac Day long weekend and the upcoming school holidays. Bega Valley Shire Council closed Merimbula Airport for infrastructure works on January 31. Regional Express (Rex) today announces that Ambulance Victoria and Pel-Air have entered into a contract for the latter to provide Fixed-Wing Air Ambulance Services to Ambulance Victoria. The contract, worth more than $300 million, has a 12-year operational phase beginning in January 2024. The contract involves the supply of four fixed-wing aircraft, pilots and engineering support to enable the aerial transport of Ambulance Victoria medical personnel and patients throughout Victoria, into Tasmania, South Australia and southern New South Wales.
