BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE TABLE

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT BAGGAGE

Carry-on Baggage

Each passenger occupying a paid seat is entitled to carry-on baggage. Baggage, including overnight bags, briefcases, personal computers, ladies' vanity cases, large size cameras etc. taken into the cabin as carry-on baggage is subject to the conditions set out in the Baggage Allowance Table. Items which exceed these allowances are not permitted into the aircraft cabin.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Passengers who are unsure if their carry-on baggage exceeds baggage limits should approach Rex staff to have baggage tested against the permitted size/weight BEFORE check-in closes to check in the bags which exceed carry-on restrictions if necessary. Passengers with baggage exceeding carry-on limits at the boarding gate will have their carry-on baggage offloaded. Carry-on baggage which is offloaded will be treated as checked baggage and only be uplifted on the next available flight and it is the passenger’s responsibility to collect these bags from the airport when they arrive.

Excess baggage fees will also be levied if total checked baggage including offloaded carry-on baggage exceeds the passenger’s checked baggage limit.

Where the airline has permitted a personal item, an item listed below may be carried by the Passenger as part of their free carry-on baggage allowance:

  • A handbag, pocketbook, purse or small backpack, which is appropriate to normal travelling dress and is not being used as a container for the transportation of articles which would otherwise be regarded as baggage;
  • Laptop;
  • An overcoat, wrap or blanket;
  • An umbrella or walking stick;
  • A small camera and/or a pair of binoculars;
  • A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight;
  • Infant's food for consumption in flight;
  • All other articles - including overnight bags, briefcases, ladies' vanity cases, large size cameras, small musical instruments such as violins etc. taken into the cabin as carry-on baggage are subject to the size restrictions.

An item listed below may be carried by the Passenger over and above their free carry-on baggage allowance:

  • A pair of crutches and/or other prosthetic devices for the passenger's use provided that the passenger is dependent upon them.

Rex permits the carriage of cellos and guitars in the cabin, provided the instrument does not exceed the weight limit of 20kg (25kg if you purchase a Rex Flex fare for the instrument). Passengers travelling with a cello or guitar are required to purchase a separate seat for the item which needs to be booked through our Customer Contact Centre 48 hours prior to departure. Purchase of additional seat for the carriage of a musical instrument on board is subject to $22 Customer Contact Centre Service Fee.

Passengers are permitted to bring sports balls such as soccer, football, basketball, and tennis balls on board. Inflatable sports equipment must be deflated before being carried and must be stored in the overhead locker for the duration of the flight. Rex assumes no liability for any loss or damage to these items.

Safe Hand Baggage is available for purchase at check-in. For more information see Safe Hand Baggage.

Please see the following links for information regarding the carriage of Dangerous Goods including Smart Bags, Lithium Batteries, Firearms, Hoverboards and Electronic Devices.

Checked Baggage

Please refer to the Baggage Allowance Table for checked baggage limits.

Infant/Child Items

  • If an infant is sitting on a lap and not occupying its own seat (under 2 years of age), the infant does not have a checked baggage allowance. All infant items (including pram/stroller/car seat etc) must be carried as part of the checked baggage allowance of accompanying adults/fare paying passengers. Additional Baggage allowance for such items can be purchased when making a booking or at the Manage Booking section of our website, here.
    OR
  • An infant occupying own seat will have an allowance in accordance with the passenger fare class purchased (see Fare Rules for fare class baggage information). Please note: all infant items, including prams/strollers/car seats are carried as part of the infant passenger’s checked baggage allowance.

    Please note the below for all infant travel:
  • If the total baggage weight, including infant items such as prams/strollers/car seats is over the checked baggage allowance, excess baggage charges apply at the airport. Or, Additional Baggage is available for purchase at booking or via the Customer Contact Centre (CCC) by calling 13 17 13.
  • Prams/strollers may be used until boarding free of charge under Safe Hand Baggage for regional and domestic flights. Please ensure that prams/strollers are tagged by check-in staff before the flight closure time.
  • If you choose to use an infant car seat on-board the aircraft, you must purchase a seat for your infant. Due to seating restrictions on the aircraft, customer service staff must be informed if an infant is going to be using an approved infant car seat when you are checking-in.

    For more information on travelling with an infant, please visit our Special Requirements page.

Golf Equipment

  • Golf equipment is considered part of normal baggage weight and can be carried free if the passenger’s total checked weight is within the entitled free weight allowance.
  • When carried in addition to the allowance, normal excess baggage charges apply.

Surfboards

  • The maximum permitted length is 2m (for regional services operated by Saab 340 aircraft) and 3m (for domestic services operated by Boeing 737-800 aircraft). For longer surfboards, passengers must seek the advice of their own freight agents for separate shipment.
  • As surfboards are part of checked baggage, total checked baggage weight above the passenger’s checked baggage allowance will be subject to excess baggage charges and offloads.
  • When carried in addition to the allowance, normal excess baggage charges apply.
  • NOTE: Wave Jet devices are forbidden for carriage on aircraft due to the capacity of the battery.

Skis

  • Standard checked baggage allowance for each passenger occupying a seat.
  • Snow skis are exempt from the linear restriction, however excess baggage charges will apply if the total baggage including snow skis exceeds the passenger’s checked baggage allowance.
