Wagga Wagga based airline, Regional Express (Rex) has dramatically increased its Wagga - Sydney services by introducing a new schedule of peak time flights from Monday 3 July 2006.
Announcing the increased service today, Rex Managing Director Geoff Breust said the new schedule involved flights crossing over at the peak morning and evening times each week day. A Rex aircraft will depart Wagga and Sydney at similar times each morning and evening passing each other in flight. It means an additional 20 flights per week on top of its current schedule bringing the total number of Rex flights to 76 per week.
“The new schedule timings are designed to add more convenience for travellers, especially those who need to spend more time in Wagga Wagga from Sydney and return in the business day. Our first flight will now depart Sydney at 6.40am arriving in Wagga at 7.50am. Our last flight from Wagga will depart at 6.30pm arriving in Sydney at 7.40pm.
“From 3 July we will also have an 8.10am flight from Wagga to Sydney on top of the existing 6.30am departure weekdays and a 5.00pm departure from Sydney arriving in Wagga at 6.10pm weekdays. This is designed to give travellers more choice of flights and more convenience.
“The current Rex schedule of flights remain. The new flights increase the Rex seating capacity on Wagga – Sydney by 680 seats per week – almost 36 percent.
“Rex has more than doubled the number of Rex passengers on the Wagga – Sydney service over the last three years and we believe this initiative will assist in further growth and significantly improve the service.
“We know our customers seek more flight options with convenient travel times and this is why we have designed this schedule. It will be a boost for the legal and medical fraternities in particular because it allows visiting professionals more time in Wagga Wagga in one day.
The move is on the heels of the Wagga Wagga City Council’s incentive initiative to assist the airlines in growing passengers through Wagga Airport. Under the incentive, the passenger charge for each airline’s total passengers in excess of 70,000 per annum decreases by 75 percent and by 90 percent where its total passengers exceed 80,000.
“Our initiative to increase flight frequency and seat capacity has been aided by the partnership approach adopted by Wagga Wagga City Council. Through the initiative, Council works with the airlines to continue to grow the air market and achieve further improvements in the service.
“There is no doubt that frequent, quality and affordable airline services bring major economic and social benefits to regional communities. Rex aims to continue to improve our services and bring more of those benefits,” Mr Breust said.
