Rex Welcomes Major Runway Upgrade in Orange
Friday, January 7, 2005

Regional Express (Rex) is looking forward to completion of the new $1.2 million upgrade to the main runway at Orange’s Spring Hill Airport .

Rex’s Managing Director Geoff Breust, said the airline was pleased with the progress so far of the three-week period of intensive works.

“Rex has co-operated closely with Orange City Council to plan for the works. It has involved re-scheduling our flights and a reduction in our normal frequency to just two return services each day while the works are being undertaken,” Mr Breust said.

Upgrading works began last Tuesday and are being completed in progressive stages so that Rex can continue their morning and evening flights. The whole project is expected to be completed by the end of next week.

“We congratulate Orange City Council for its professional approach to the future of its airport facility. The completion of the runway refurbishment will mean the airport has a bright future and continue to contribute to the local economy and community.

We also thank Cr Chris Gryllis, the Chairman of the Airport Advisory Committee, the Mayor, Councillors and staff for their commitment and co-operative approach to completing this major project.

Rex aircraft have specific approval to operate from unsealed runways. Contingency measures are in place to cover services should the weather make the unsealed surface unsuitable for operations. Passengers will be advised if there are further changes to services as a result.

“We also thank our customers for their co-operation and understanding during this period. Rex customers requiring any information on flights are requested to call our Customer Contact Centre on 13 17 13.”
