Rex Extends Tsunami Relief Aid from Orange
Friday, January 7, 2005

Rex’s fund raising efforts for the Tsunami disaster through Australian Red Cross has gone full force ever since its announcement earlier today. Rex Orange Customer Contact Centre staff have taken the initiative to collect items for victims in Sri Lanka .

The 50 Orange based staff are not only collecting items themselves but have sent out an appeal for Orange and district people to support the cause by donating items in real need – especially for children, many of whom have been orphaned by the terrible disaster.

Items sought are specifically children items as there have been ample donations to cater for the other needs. This include baby powder, creams, toothbrushes, toothpaste, formula, feeding bottles/cups, water purification tablets and toys - colouring books, pencils, pens, crayons, exercise books, soft toys etc. Clothings are not required.

Donated items can be deposited at Rex’s Customer Contact Centre at 47 Leewood Drive and at 312 Summer Street next door to Chris Gryllis Real Estate – which has kindly donated the premises for this purpose.

The Rotary Club of Orange North is manning the Summer Street collection point and Smiths Transport is freighting the items to Sydney where they will be airlifted to Sri Lanka courtesy of freight forwarding company Kuehne and Nagal.

Arrangements have been made in Sri Lanka for the donated items to be transported quickly and directly to the affected communities.

“I commend our Orange staff for their initiative and compassion. We are sure these items will make a great difference to the lives of many affected by this terrible disaster – especially the children,” said the Managing Director of Rex Geoff Breust.
