Regional Express (Rex), Australia’s largest independent regional airline which flies to seven major South Australian regional centres and Broken Hill from Adelaide Airport, has re-affirmed its full commitment to its services in the State.
Commenting on a report in a television news service which suggested the airline might consider withdrawing from Adelaide given the unacceptable regional facilities in the new terminal, Rex’s Managing Director, Geoff Breust, said the airline had no intention of withdrawing its services and would continue the fight for quality air services for regional communities.
“Our customers and the communities we serve from Adelaide Airport have clearly said the new terminal facilities for regional passengers are not acceptable. We agree and have taken their concerns to Adelaide Airport with the clear message to fix them.
“If AAL is unable or is unprepared to provide acceptable facilities then we will listen to our customers. If they say we should move back to the old domestic terminal, then we will have to consider it very seriously,” Mr Breust said.
“However, Adelaide Airport is listening and is investigating the range of solutions we have suggested. We are meeting with them again on Monday.”
Rex’s Singapore based Executive Chairman, Mr Lim Kim Hai, Deputy Chairman The Hon John Sharp and Mr Breust are making a special trip to Adelaide on Monday to inspect the facilities and meet with Mr Phil Baker, Adelaide Airport’s Managing Director.
“We are hoping the meeting on Monday will bring good news for all regional South Australian air travellers,” Mr Breust said.
