Regional Express, Rex, will commence operations from the new Adelaide Domestic Terminal this Sunday 18 December.
Rex will be the first domestic airline to operate from the new terminal building.
Rex’s move comes as the other domestic airlines gear up to transfer to the new terminal building next week.
“Issues associated with the in-ground refuelling system do not impact on our services as all our aircraft are refuelled using tanker services. While all our facilities, including our new corporate Rex Lounge have been completed for some time, we have been reluctant to move much before the major domestic airlines as many of our customers connect with their services“, Geoff Breust, Rex’s Managing Director said.
“With the interstate airlines intended transfer to the new terminal early next week it makes sense for us to complete our move over this coming weekend. All Rex services will operate from the new terminal Gate 10 from our first flights Sunday morning.”
“We urge all our customers to arrive early for their departures and keep a close look out for directional signs. Our check-in counters in the departures hall are the first positions at the northern end of the building – the first as you arrive. Our Gate 10 is also at the northern end of the terminal. Rex passengers turn left and continue along the main concourse after security screening.”
Rex has arranged additional staff for the first few days to assist customers not familiar with the new terminal.
Through arrangements with Adelaide Airport Limited, a special shuttle bus will operate between the two terminals to transfer Rex passengers to connecting flights.
Rex is South Australia’s largest regional airline operating services to Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Mount Gambier, Ceduna, Olympic Dam, Coober Pedy, Kingscote and Broken Hill. Rex is also Australia’s largest independent regional airline operating over 1,000 flights weekly on 33 routes from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide with a fleet of 29 aircraft.
Rex recently listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, acquired a fifty percent shareholding in Pel-Air, a major overnight air freight and charter company based in Sydney and purchased Dubbo based regional airline, Air Link.
