Regional Express (Rex) today announced a new flight schedule effective 11 July 2005 for its Ballina to Sydney service.
“Rex will overnight its aircraft in Ballina to provide the early morning and evening return flights to Sydney demanded by local travellers,” Rex’s Managing Director, Geoff Breust said.
The revised schedule is in response to the pleas from the local community which was left without a suitable schedule for commuting to Sydney for the day after the withdrawal of Qantaslink flights announced last week.
“Even though it will cost us more to overnight our crews at Ballina, Rex feels obligated to step in and fill the gap. Our weekday morning service will depart Ballina at 6:40am and arrive in Sydney at 8:20am. Our evening flight will depart Sydney at 6:30pm and arrive in Ballina at 8:05pm.”
“We will retain our three return weekday frequencies as well as adding a fourth return service on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Rex will operate a total of 24 return flights weekly between Ballina and Sydney as well as its current 26 return flights between Lismore and Sydney.
Although Rex’s first flight from Sydney will now arrive at 10.10am, travellers needing to arrive in the Northern Rivers earlier will be able to travel to Lismore on Rex’s early morning flight which arrives at 8.30am.
“Our immediate response to the needs of the community is further evidence of Rex’s commitment to regional Australia. We believe the changes to our schedule will ensure both business and leisure travellers have access to flights at convenient times. We will continue to monitor the operation of these services and if a need is identified we will respond with additional flights,” Mr Breust said.
Rex is Australia’s largest independent regional airline operating services to 28 destinations from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Rex operates a special corporate lounge facility at Sydney Airport terminal T2 and its own Rex Flyer Program.
