Regional Express (Rex), Snowy Mountains Airport Corporation and the Snowy Mountains community will celebrate Rex’s upcoming service* connecting Sydney and the Region with a Family Open Day on Saturday 14 May at the Snowy Mountains (Cooma) Airport.
An assortment of fun activities and entertainment for the whole family is planned. A feature of the day will be Scenic Flights in one of Rex’s Saab 340 aircraft. The flights will provide a magnificent bird’s eye view of the Snowy Mountains range, including sights such as Lake Jindabyne, Mt Kosciuszko, the snow resorts, Mt Selwyn, the historic towns of Khancoban, Cabramurra and Kiandra, and Lake Eucumbene.
Those of all ages can enjoy performances by the Cooma District Band and Cooma Dance Group, wander around the Market Day stalls, have the rare opportunity to inspect a Rex plane and actually walk the runway. There will be a range of other happenings including a display by local fire tankers, competitions, BBQ and activities for the kids.
Rex’s Managing Director Geoff Breust said the day provides a great way to introduce the new Rex air service which will link the region with Sydney and beyond and a valuable opportunity to support local community groups.
“Funds raised from the scenic flights and other activities on the day will be donated to Disabled WinterSport Australia and the Cooma Hospital,” Mr Breust said
Disabled WinterSport Australia is a sporting organisation which provides opportunities for people with disabilities to ski and experience Australia's winter playgrounds with their fellow skiers. The Cooma Hospital provides a vital service to the Monaro and surrounding districts.
Entrance to the open day is free, while tickets for the scenic flights are $40 per person. Those seeking a seat on the flight must book early to avoid disappointment by contacting the Rex Call Centre on 13 17 13 and making payment by credit card.
“Rex is very pleased to join with the Snowy Mountains Airport and the local community to commence the new service from 10 June – following approval from the Federal and State regulatory bodies.
“The initial six return flights weekly service will increase to twelve during the peak ski season and return to the base service during summer. Schedule timing is designed to cater for both business and leisure travel. Rex has joined with the resorts in the Snowy Mountains to increase visitors and tourism activity all year round,” Mr Breust said.
