Pel-Air Aviation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Regional Express (Rex), has been awarded the Jacinth-Ambrosia Project Fly In / Fly Out charter contract on behalf of Iluka Resources.
The Jacinth-Ambrosia Project, owned and operated by Iluka Resources (www.iluka.com), is one of Australia’s largest Mineral Sands resources and is expected to come online in 2010 with a forecast 10 year mine life.
Pel-Air will commence operating the charter services next week from its Adelaide base to Jacinth-Ambrosia, which is located approximately 190 kilometres north-west of Ceduna.
The initial term of the contract is for 3 years. All other details of the contract are confidential.
Commenting on the decision, Rex Managing Director, Jim Davis said, “Iluka Resources carried out an extremely thorough evaluation of the contenders for this contract and we are thrilled that Pel-Air was selected.”
The newly-awarded contract will bring about increased efficiencies for the Rex Group of companies as Pel-Air leverages from Rex’s vast existing resources and facilities in South Australia. Rex operates regular air services to 7 regional destinations from Adelaide which includes Ceduna.
Pel-Air currently operates a Fly in/Fly out charter service for Barrick Gold in Queensland and was recently selected as the Preferred Tenderer for the 10 year Ambulance Victoria contract.
Regional Express (Rex) is Australia’s largest independent regional airline operating a fleet of 40 Saab 340 aircraft on some 1,300 weekly flights to 24 destinations from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. The Rex Group comprises Regional Express, air freight and charter operator Pel-Air Aviation and Dubbo based regional airline Air Link, as well as the pilot academy Australian Airline Pilot Academy.
