Regional Express (Rex) announced that it has raised $145,186.58 for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund after two weeks of fund raising.
Managing Director, Jim Davis revealed that: “In-flight collections from our generous passengers reached $48,343.79 while Rex staff members donated $12,249.50. In addition Rex Directors donated $12,000 making a total of $72,593.29 collected. Rex had earlier pledged to match these donations dollar-for-dollar from a $200,000 Bushfire Assistance Fund specially set up for this purpose and so the total cash raised will be $145,186.58. All customer and staff donations including the Rex dollar-for-dollar matching will be channelled through to the Australian Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.”

It is extremely gratifying to see this type of response from the community when our fellow Australians face such a terrible calamity” he added.
Charity groups and other organisations that are involved in relief efforts can still apply for airfare assistance on the Rex website at http://www.rex.com.au/Sponsorship/bushfire.aspx until the Rex Bushfire Assistance Fund is exhausted. To date more than $10,000 worth of air tickets have been disbursed.
