Regional Express (Rex), in partnership with the City of Wagga Wagga, has unveiled one of its Saab 340 aircraft in a unique “City of Wagga Wagga” paint scheme design. The aircraft was unveiled today in conjunction with the official opening of the expanded and refurbished Wagga Wagga Airport terminal.
Wagga Wagga City Council Mayor, Cr Kerry Pascoe said the artwork on the unique aircraft emphasised the strong working relationship between Rex and the City of Wagga Wagga, and it formed part of a broader partnership that fostered local business and supports growth.
“The partnership has been a major catalyst in achieving record passenger numbers through Wagga Wagga Airport with Rex growing annual passenger numbers from 40,000 during the financial year of 2003 to more than 120,000 in 2008,” he said.
“Rex provides more than 104 local jobs here in Wagga Wagga and the strong partnership between Rex and Council is fundamental to Rex’s ongoing investment in the City.
“We can see Rex continuing to grow their diverse aviation activities in Wagga Wagga and this will enhance the City’s own aspiration to be a nationally significant regional aviation hub, as well as have far reaching benefits to the community at large.”
Rex General Manager, Network Strategy and Sales, Mr Warrick Lodge said Rex and the City of Wagga Wagga had a proud heritage that dates back to the days of Kendell Airlines - the predecessor of Rex.
“Wagga Wagga is important to the Rex Group of aviation companies and we are fortunate to be able to recognise the City of Wagga Wagga’s support for Rex by dedicating the livery of one aircraft to the City. Wagga Wagga is the only city to be bestowed this honour,” he said.
“The Wagga Wagga branded aircraft will operate throughout Rex’s vast regional network of 23 regional ports across New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. This includes operating through some of Australia’s busiest capital city airports being Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. This is great exposure for Wagga Wagga.”
Rex is Australia’s largest independent regional airline operating a fleet of 40 Saab 340 aircraft on more than 1,200 flights weekly to 24 destinations from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
The Rex Group comprises Regional Express, air freight and charter operator Pel-Air Aviation and Dubbo based regional airline Air Link, as well as the pilot academy Australian Airline Pilot Academy.
