Rex Responds to Record Oil Price
Friday, June 27, 2008

Regional Express (Rex) has responded to the continuing rise in oil prices by announcing that the airline will have to increase its fuel surcharge by $4.00 (including GST) per sector effective on all sales from 02 July 2008. This will see Rex’s fuel surcharge increase from $40.00 to $44.00 per sector.

Rex General Manager, Network Strategy and Sales, Mr Warrick Lodge said, “With the price hitting $140 USD per barrel this week we have to react promptly to ensure the partial recovery of this cost for the essential services that we provide.

“However, even in the face of record fuel costs, through the tremendous efficiency gains we have achieved over six years, Rex has lowered the average ticket price inclusive of the fuel levy by more than 15% and when excluding the fuel levy the average ticket price has fallen by more than 30%.”

The fuel surcharge increase is also applicable to Rex’s subsidiary airline, Air Link.

Rex is Australia’s largest independent regional airline operating a fleet of 38 Saab 340 aircraft on more than 1,200 flights weekly to 23 destinations from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. The Rex Group comprises Regional Express, air freight and charter operator Pel-Air Aviation and Dubbo based regional airline Air Link, as well as the pilot academy Australian Airline Pilot Academy.
