Following considerable feedback and petitions from the Griffith community, Regional Express (Rex) confirmed that a reversal of the decision to suspend its Griffith-Melbourne route is not possible in the short term.
Acting Managing Director, Mr Jim Davis, appealed for the understanding of the Griffith community, saying “We are facing 60% attrition rates of our pilot strength and consequently must sacrifice the lesser performing routes to preserve the integrity of the larger network.
“We have taken note of the numerous petitions from the residents and will certainly take that into account once the pilot situation improves”.
Mr Davis also noted that as a result of the recent measures taken, the cancellation rate month to date in March for all Rex services was at 0.1%, down from the 1-2% it has experienced in recent months.
Rex is Australia’s largest independent regional airline operating a fleet of 37 Saab 340 aircraft on 1,300 flights weekly to 24 destinations from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. The Rex Group comprises Regional Express, air freight and charter operator Pel - Air Aviation and Dubbo based regional airline, Air Link.
