Rex Reaffirms Promise to Stranded O'Connors Passengers
Thursday, December 13, 2007

Australia’s largest independent regional airline, Regional Express (Rex), today reaffirmed earlier promises that it would do all possible to help any passengers facing uncertainties regarding their travel plans following confirmation today that O’Connor Airlines has been grounded.

Rex currently operates 64 flights per week between Mount Gambier and Adelaide and has enough capacity on the route to accommodate the additional passengers. Rex Chief of Staff, Mr Jim Davis, said that Rex will be monitoring the situation and if necessary will put in place contingency plans which were developed to enable the airline to add more flights on most days without needing any extra crews or aircraft.

Mr Davis added that Rex had been in contact with the O’Connors Administrator and was assured that all passengers who had made bookings since the commencement of administration would be given a full refund by O’Connors.

“On our part we will extend our fully discounted fares to all stranded passengers in the period leading up to Christmas and New Year where most flights are running full with only the higher priced seats left. Affected passengers should immediately call our call centre on 13 17 13 with the booking reference of their O’Connors reservations to avoid any disappointments during the festive period.

“We are also very conscious of the plight of the staff at O’Connors and will give priority consideration to any of them who wish to apply for employment with Rex. Those interested should send an email to employment@rex.com.au” said Mr Davis.

“Additionally, passengers travelling from Port Augusta may access Rex services from nearby Whyalla. Rex currently operates 68 flights per week between Whyalla and Adelaide.”

Rex is Australia’s largest independent regional airline operating a fleet of 36 Saab 340 aircraft on 1,300 flights weekly to 25 destinations from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. The Rex Group comprises Regional Express, air freight and charter operator Pel - Air Aviation and Dubbo based regional airline, Air Link.
