REX MOVES TO NEW GATE AT SYDNEY AIRPORT

11 March 2005

Regional Express (Rex), Australia’s largest independent regional airline, moves to new gate facilities at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport this weekend.

All Rex services will operate from Gate 47 at Terminal T2 from the first flight on Sunday 13 March.

Rex’s Managing Director, Geoff Breust, said the move to the new facilities was the culmination of arrangements with Sydney Airport Corporation Limited (SACL) for facilities for the airline following the expiry of Rex’s lease on Gate 39 and its Rex Lounge on 30 November last year.

Rex and SACL signed a new five by five year lease for the facilities this week.

“We commend SACL for its outstanding work in providing the new facilities which include a completely re-vamped passenger check-in gate, a new Rex Corporate Lounge facility adjacent to the Gate and related offices and staff facilities. They have worked hard to a tight deadline to achieve this excellent result,” Mr Breust said.

“Our new facilities provide an unsurpassed level of customer amenity and comfort, are closer and more convenient to the entrance to the terminal and close to the shops and food court facilities on the main concourse. The prime facilities are an indication of the priority and importance SACL and the authorities attach on regional communities and regional travel.”

“All transfers between the terminal and aircraft will be by bus, which in many ways is more convenient and comfortable for our passengers, especially those who find walking long distances a chore.”

“Our New Rex Lounge facility features all the amenities our corporate and government travellers need. It includes state of the art wireless data communications provided by our partner Telstra Country Wide, lounge, work stations and refreshment services. We are sure our Rex Lounge members will enjoy these new facilities, Mr Breust said.

The Rex Lounge is planned to be officially opened on 15 April when a special feature incorporated into the design of the lounge will be unveiled.

All Rex customers are urged to follow the signs to the new Rex Departure Gate 47 when arriving at the terminal. Customers seeking information are requested to call Rex on 13 17 13.

Mr Breust paid tribute to the great support Rex received from customers and communities all around the State in its negotiations for better access and greater convenience for regional travellers..

“The resultant facilities we have today are a direct result of the bipartisan support of Members of Parliament both at State and Federal level, organisations such as the Local Government Association, the Shires Association, the NSW Farmers Association, the Country mayors’ Association, the Regional Aviation Association of Australia and many local Councils, individuals and organisations,” Mr Breust said.
