Regional Express (Rex), Australia’s largest independent regional airline, has been named CAPA (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation) Regional Airline of the Year 2007.
Mr Peter Harbison, Executive Chairman of CAPA said that Rex was chosen by an advisory board based on Rex’s notable achievements in the aviation industry.
“Regional Express has displayed a superb commitment to regional areas in Australia, helping breath life into cities that have struggled with air service cuts and the effects of the ongoing drought. It took a focused, efficient operator to make these services a success and Regional Express, under the leadership of Lim Kim Hai, continues to deliver these qualities.
“As the region’s pre-eminent aviation strategists, CAPA takes rewarding Aviation Excellence seriously. The CAPA Regional Airline of the year is awarded to the regional airline that has had the most significant impact, shown strategic leadership and demonstrated innovation in regional aviation. Rex has fulfilled all these criteria”, Mr Harbison said.
Receiving the award at the 4th Aviation Outlook summit held in Singapore yesterday, Rex Chairman Lim Kim Hai said it was an honour to be awarded this recognition by Asia Pacific’s top aviation think tank.
“This award confirms the earlier selection of Rex as the domestic airline of the year in Australia by readers of a popular consumer magazine and also the ranking by Aviation Week and Space Technology in July 2007 as the world’s second best airline for the category of revenue below US $1 billion. We are proud that being a small regional carrier has not prevented us from providing the highest quality of product, service levels and profitability.
“We have much to be proud of at Rex. I dedicate these awards to our outstanding staff who demonstrates every day to all our regional passengers that out heart is in the country”, Mr Lim said.
Rex is Australia’s largest independent regional airline operating a fleet of 34 Saab 340 aircraft on 1,300 flights weekly to 25 destinations from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane. The Rex Group comprises Regional Express, air freight and charter operator Pel - Air Aviation and Dubbo based regional airline, Air Link.
