Regional Express (Rex) has added further flights to Port Lincoln and Mount Gambier from Adelaide as part of its continuing growth in South Australia.
From 10 September, Rex’s Adelaide – Port Lincoln schedule will increase by six flights per week bringing the total to a massive 114 flights per week.
The additional flights come in the wake of a special partnership agreement executed between the District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula and Rex in June to jointly invest in further growing the passenger market on the Adelaide – Port Lincoln route. Immediately following that agreement, Rex introduced an additional aircraft into its South Australian network to provide a late evening flight to Port Lincoln and an early morning departure from Port Lincoln each weekday which cross - over with other Rex flights at those times.
“We entered into the partnership with the District Council with the specific aim of providing more services and more passengers through their airport. This increase in flights is clear evidence of the merits of the partnership and the benefits it brings to the community stakeholders.”
“It is quite incredible that a relatively small community with a population of just over 15,000 can support an air service of this magnitude. It is testimony to the level of service provided by Rex and the very affordable fares we offer. Our cheapest fare is $99.00 one way and is available year round. The vast majority of our customers travel on this fare,” Mr Breust said.
Mount Gambier also receives extra services as part of Rex’s schedule adjustments from 10 September.
An additional Saturday flight departing Adelaide at 3.35pm arriving Mount Gambier at 4.40pm and returning from Mount Gambier at 5.00pm arriving in Adelaide at 6.10pm has been introduced. This brings Rex’s services on the Mount Gambier – Adelaide route to 64 flights per week.
“The additional return service to Mount Gambier on Saturday afternoon was identified as one the Mount Gambier market required and we have moved to provide it. The Mount Gambier market continues to grow strongly,” Mr Breust said.
Rex is South Australia’s and Australia’s largest regional airline operating a fleet of 34 Saab 340 aircraft on 1,300 flights weekly to 25 destinations from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. The Rex Group comprises Regional Express, air freight and charter operator Pel - Air Aviation and Dubbo based regional airline, Air Link.
