Rex Lowers Discount Fares for Broken Hill
Tuesday, May 1, 2007

Regional Express (Rex) has lowered its discount fares on services to both Adelaide and Sydney from Broken Hill.

“Our decision to introduce these lower promotional fares is an additional investment by Rex to the partnership agreement with the Broken Hill City Council’s to co-invest in affordable air services with an aim of growing the overall air service market. Rex’s latest initiative is additional to the scope covered in the agreement and reflects our strong commitment to the Broken Hill community,” Rex Managing Director, Geoff Breust said.

The new cheapest fare for travel between Broken Hill and Adelaide has been reduced from $155.00 to $129.00 fully inclusive of all taxes and charges - a saving of $26.00.

On Broken Hill – Sydney a special promotional fare has been introduced at $189.00 fully inclusive. This is the lowest fare ever on this route – the current cheapest discount fare is $215.00. This special fare is available for sale between now and 31 May 2007 and available for travel until 30 June 2007.

Other discount fares have also been revised relative to the lower cheapest discount level.

Rex recently introduced new direct services between Broken Hill and Sydney more than doubling the seat capacity on the route. The previous service via Dubbo has been retained. Services to Adelaide have also benefited from the upgrade to 34 seat Saab 340 aircraft on all services while the frequency of flights has been retained.

“The new Sydney services provide Broken Hill residents with the ability to visit Sydney and return in one day or spend a weekend in the city departing Saturday morning and returning Sunday evening. They also provide a fantastic weekend in Broken Hill from Sydney departing Friday evening and returning early Monday morning in time for work. This along with the other flights will assist in building tourism to the Broken Hill and the region,” Mr Breust said.

Rex is Australia’s largest independent regional airline operating a fleet of 31 Saab 340 aircraft on some 1,200 flights weekly to 33 destinations from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Rex recently announced the acquisition of 25 latest generation Saab 340B Plus aircraft for fleet replacement and expansion. The first of these aircraft arrived in Australia on Monday 30 April.
