Regional Express (Rex) and Greater Taree City Council will co-host a special Rex Family Open Day this Saturday 28 April 2007 at Taree Airport.
Rex’s Managing Director Geoff Breust said special family open days have become a feature of Rex’s continued support for its regional communities and to promote regional air services.
“On Saturday we’re throwing open the doors from 10.00am to 4.00pm to provide a fun day out for the local community, and to raise funds for a very worthy cause – the Taree Volunteer Rescue Association.
“It’s going to be a big day. We have three Rex scenic flights over the city and surrounds so local people can get a bird’s eye view of where they live. These flights are always a big hit and on some past occasions have provided people with their first opportunity to fly. Seats at $40.00 each are available through our Call Centre on 13 17 13. All funds received from the scenic flight ticket sales and other proceeds from the day will go to the Taree Volunteer Rescue Association.
“The day is all about fun for families. The kids will be entertained with free helium balloons, a jumping castle and face painting, and they will also be able to take part in a colouring-in competition. Greater Taree City Rotary Club will put on a big barbecue for us all and those in attendance can try their luck in the Grand Lucky Draw and hourly prize giveaways. Rex will also have a stand for the sale of our corporate merchandise.”
“To top it all off, we have almost twenty stalls from the famous “Market Stalls”. The Entertainment will showcase local musical talent including the Greater Taree City Band, Carmen’s School of Dance, Mojo Fire and the Taree Christian Community School Choir.
The Taree Volunteer Rescue Association continues to do great work locally covering the full range of emergency situations, particularly motor accidents. Funds raised on the day will be used by the Association to purchase vital equipment used in its rescue missions.
“Rex is committed to serving the Greater Taree/ Manning Valley region and we would like to thank the local community for it’s support since commencing services in late February 2007. Rex now operates 36 weekly flights between Taree and Sydney which provides up to 63,000 seats per year.
Commenting on the open day and the initiative shown by Rex, Mr Bronte Dupen, General Manager of Greater Taree City Council said that Rex had brought a quality service to Taree and the region with the larger Saab 340 aircraft and a convenient schedule of services.” Rex has also brought us very affordable fares and a level of reliability we can count on. It has meant a major investment by the airline and the Council for the good of the community,” Mr Dupen said.
Mr Breust said: “May I take this opportunity to thank and congratulate everyone for their support and especially thank the Greater Taree City Council for its commitment to Rex service and Open Day. We look ahead with confidence to a strong future in Taree and the Manning Valley.”
Rex and the Greater Taree City Council thank sponsors and supporters of the Open Day including Shell Aviation, De Bortoli, Greater Taree City Rotary Club, the Market Stalls, the Greater Taree City Band, Carmen’s School of Dance, Mojo Fire, the Taree Christian Community School Choir and the Taree Volunteer Rescue Association.
While entrance to the Open Day is free, a gold coin donation would be appreciated. Tickets for the Rex scenic flights are $40 per person, all of which will be donated to the Taree Volunteer Rescue Association. Those seeking a seat on a Rex flight must book early to avoid disappointment by contacting the Rex Call Centre on 13 17 13 and making payment by credit card.
