Rex Ranked World's Top Performing Regional Carrier For Second Consecutive Year
Thursday, July 15, 2010

Regional Express (Rex) has been ranked the world’s Top Performing Regional Airline by the prestigious Aviation Week and Space Technology (AWST) for the second consecutive year, beating American giants Republic Airways, SkyWest Inc. and Pinnacle Airlines.

The ranking was conducted on all publicly traded airlines in the world based on 19 financial ratios compiled over a period of 10 years. This year’s AWST rankings “identify those managers who have best positioned their companies for recovery from last year’s global recession and volatility in fuel prices.”

AWST noted that: “Airline leadership requires extraordinary vision, distinctive innovation and remarkable execution. Many airlines excel in one category and some in two but few standout in all three. Among these is this year’s Top-Performing Regional Airline Regional Express Holdings Ltd.”

Rex Executive Chairman Lim Kim Hai said that Australia could be proud that its airlines stand amongst the world’s most financially sound. “In addition to Rex’s top position, Qantas too obtained an outstanding 5th in the Legacy Carrier category while Virgin Blue came in a respectable 15th in the Low Cost Carrier category.”

Mr Lim congratulated the staff and management of Rex “for their dedicated service and leadership that produced this outstanding result”.

Regional Express (Rex) is Australia’s largest independent regional airline operating a fleet of 50 Saab 340 aircraft on some 55,000 annual flights to 35 destinations throughout New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Queensland. The Rex Group comprises Regional Express, air freight and charter operator Pel-Air Aviation and Dubbo based regional airline Air Link, as well as the pilot academy Australian Airline Pilot Academy.
